Fridge Repairs in Albion Park

A fridge feeding a big Albion Park household gets opened all day and packed to the doors, and most of the faults we find trace back to that.

Salt barely figures out here. Albion Park and Albion Park Rail sit back from the lake and rise towards the escarpment, so condensers stay far cleaner than they do on the coast and fridges usually reach a decent age before anything major gives way. What wears them down is use: doors opened constantly through the school holidays and shelves packed for a household of six.

Cold freezer, warm milk

When the freezer stays hard and the fresh food side warms up, the fridge is still producing cold. It just isn't getting it to the right compartment. Frost-free models make all their cold at a single evaporator coil hidden behind the freezer's back panel, and a small fan pushes some of that air through a channel into the fridge section. Stop the fan, block the channel or let the coil ice over, and the fridge side drifts towards room temperature over a day or two.

In a busy house the blockage is often on the shelf. A tray of mince or a bag of spinach shoved hard against the outlet at the back of the compartment can choke the airflow. Clear the space in front of the vents, keep the door shut for a few hours and see whether it recovers.

If it doesn't, open the freezer, hold the door switch in, and listen. A fan that ticks, buzzes or makes no sound tells the technician where to start. A thick white frost across the back wall of the freezer points at the defrost side instead. Resist chipping at that ice with a knife or a screwdriver. It's easy to puncture the evaporator, and that turns a defrost repair into a gas leak.

Doors that open all day

A fridge in a house full of kids gets opened and slammed far more than one in a quiet household, and the wear shows at the hinges, the gasket and the door shelves. The gasket usually splits first at its lower corners. The cam on the bottom hinge, which helps the door swing itself shut, wears down until the door rests a few millimetres open and the alarm starts beeping. Door shelves loaded with milk and juice bottles pull the door down at the handle side.

All of those parts can be replaced. Before booking, check the fridge is level side to side and tilted very slightly back; the front feet wind up and down by hand on most models, and a fridge leaning forward will never close its own door. When the fridge door won't stay shut goes through the adjustments in order.

Repair prices on Albion Park fridges

Plenty of fridge faults are minor. When the fix is a small part, the bill usually works out at the $125 assessment plus something in the order of $60. A larger fridge repair generally totals $500 to $600, and the technician will tell you which kind you have before picking up a tool. A fridge that has leaked its gas is the exception we usually advise against fixing.

If it's the garage fridge playing up rather than the kitchen one, read the garage fridge article before booking, because the cause can turn out to be the garage itself.

Warranty work

We're an authorised repairer for Samsung, Haier, Westinghouse, Hisense, Kelvinator and the other major names, so a fridge still under its manufacturer warranty is covered as well. Have the proof of purchase ready when you call.

Questions from Albion Park

Why is my fridge not cold but the freezer is?

A frost-free fridge makes its cold at one coil behind the freezer wall and relies on a small fan to share it with the fresh food side. If that fan stops, the coil ices over or a container is jammed against the outlet, the freezer carries on while the fridge warms. Clear the outlet first, and if nothing improves within a few hours, book a technician.

Why does my fridge door keep popping open?

Often something on a shelf is stopping it, or the cam on the hinge that helps it swing shut has worn. A fridge leaning forward will also struggle to close itself, so check the front feet. If it still springs open on a level fridge, the hinge or gasket needs attention.

Is it worth fixing an older second fridge?

Often, if the fault is a fan, a sensor or a door gasket. A fridge that has lost its gas is a different matter and usually isn't worth the money. The technician tells you which you have before you spend anything past the assessment.

Do you come out to Albion Park Rail and the new estates?

Yes. Albion Park Rail sits on the same run as Albion Park, and we cover the Calderwood and Tullimbar estates on that leg as well.
