On the rise between Warilla and the lake. Established homes, mixed housing stock, and a fair few appliances installed in laundries that were never designed for them.
The assessment fee is $125, fixed. A technician diagnoses the fault and quotes the repair before any work starts.
Barrack Heights runs from older brick homes through to renovated places with new kitchens dropped into old floorplans, and that mix shows up in the work. On one street we're replacing a thermostat in a thirty-year-old wall oven; on the next we're diagnosing a control board in a two-year-old front loader.
The renovations are where the interesting problems live, because a new appliance in an old space often inherits the space's limitations.
A lot of homes here have gained a laundry in a converted garage corner, under the stairs, or in a cupboard off the hallway. The appliances usually work fine — until they don't, and then the reason is almost always the space rather than the machine.
Three that come up over and over:
We'd rather tell you it's the install than sell you a part.
Freestanding cookers are common here, and the faults are the familiar ones: a thermostat that has drifted, a failed element that's usually visible as a blister or a break, or an ignition module on a gas top that has gone damp.
The one to stop and take seriously is an oven that trips the safety switch the moment it's switched on. That's an element gone to earth. Turn it off at the wall and leave it off.
Sitting between the ocean and the lake, Barrack Heights gets enough salt and humidity to matter. Check the condenser coils annually — a furred coil pack is the most common reason a fridge runs constantly without getting cold, and it's the cheapest thing on the list to fix. Why your fridge runs constantly covers what to look at.
Barrack Heights is on the same run as Warilla and Blackbutt, with Oak Flats a few minutes west.
