There isn't a great deal to say about Asko, and that is the useful part. These machines stay worth fixing long after most others have stopped being worth fixing.
The short version
Asko machines are built heavier than most of what we attend, and the practical result is that the age at which we start advising people not to bother arrives noticeably later than it does on a mid-range front loader.
That is the whole pitch. We are not going to pad it out.
Why the tub matters more than anything else
The single structural difference that changes the arithmetic is the tub. A washer with a moulded plastic outer tub, once the drum bearings go, often needs the whole assembly, and that assembly is worth a large slice of what the machine is worth. So the fault effectively retires the appliance.
Asko builds the tub in stainless steel. Bearing work on one is a real job and not a cheap one, but it is a job that can be done to a machine that will then keep going for years, on a chassis that has not corroded and a drum that has not gone out of shape. That is a different decision from the one you make about a ten-year-old plastic-tub machine, and it is why we quote Asko repairs at ages we would not quote other brands at.
The one thing to expect
Parts. Asko moves far fewer units in Australia than the high-volume badges do, and a thinner supply network means finishing in one visit is less of a sure thing here than it is on, say, a Bosch.
Ordinary wear parts turn up without much drama. Electronics and model-specific assemblies are the ones that can drag, because they arrive through a much smaller pipeline. We say that up front rather than let you discover it after you have already paid us to come out.
Two faults worth naming
A machine that stops part way through with water still sitting in the base is a drainage problem, and drainage problems are usually an obstruction rather than a failure. It is the cheapest outcome on the list and the one we hope for.
The other is the door. The hinge springs on these stretch over time and let the door sit a fraction lower than it should. The seal then stops making contact at the top corners and you get a leak that only appears on certain cycles. People chase the seal; the seal is fine. It is the door that has dropped.
