A newer suburb with newer faults

Shell Cove is barely twenty years old in most of its streets, and the appliances match. We rarely see anything here that has died of old age. What we do see is electronics, sensors and control boards — the parts that fail early on machines whose mechanical guts are still fine.

Integrated appliances and the access problem

Worth knowing: touch control panels on integrated dishwashers fail from steam ingress, and the steam usually comes from a door seal that stopped sealing months earlier. Fixing the panel without fixing the seal buys you a year at best.

Induction cooktops that cut out mid-cook

A steady stream of these through summer. An induction top shutting itself down partway through cooking is almost always thermal — the cooling fan or the ventilation path under the bench, not the element. Ducted rangehoods and downdraft units make it worse by pulling warm air across the intake.

It presents as an intermittent fault, which makes people assume it's electrical and expensive. It usually isn't.

Fridges in the newer kitchens

French-door and Twin Cooling fridges are everywhere here. The common fault is ice building up on the rear panel of the fresh food side, which is a defrost heater or sensor, not a gas leak. A fridge that's icing is still worth repairing; one that has actually lost gas usually isn't.
