Dryer Repairs in Shellharbour Village

Vented dryers in small village laundries and heat pump dryers in the newer homes each have their own weak points.

Vented dryers in a closed-up laundry

A vented dryer pushes warm, wet air out of the back of the machine. In a small lean-to laundry with only a louvre window, that air has nowhere to go, so it settles as condensation on the walls, the ceiling and the dryer itself. Near the harbour the moisture carries salt with it, and the cabinet, the door catch and the controls corrode faster than they should.

Run the dryer with the window or the back door open, and if you can, fit a vent kit to carry the air outside. In a room that stays humid, the dryer also takes longer per load and runs hot for longer, which wears the element and the thermal cut-out. Mould spots on the laundry ceiling, or paint lifting above the dryer, are signs the room is holding more moisture than it can shed. The louvre blades themselves collect lint, and wiping them down lets the room breathe a little better.

Heat pump dryers and their filters

In the internal laundries closer to the city centre, a heat pump or condenser dryer makes more sense because it doesn't need venting. These dry at lower temperatures and depend on clean filters. Besides the lint screen you empty after each load, there's a second filter in front of the heat exchanger, usually behind a flap at the base. When it clogs, cycles stretch out and the clothes come out damp. Rinse both, let them dry, and refit.

These dryers also have to move the water they collect, either into a tank you empty or out through a hose to the laundry tub. If the tank warning comes on when the tank is half empty, or water pools under the machine, the pump or its float switch is the likely fault. Fisher & Paykel, Electrolux, Haier and Asko are all brands we're authorised for.

We'll diagnose any dryer for a fixed $125 and give you the repair price before starting.

Questions from Shellharbour

Can I run a vented dryer in a small laundry?

You can, but the room needs fresh air while it runs, so open the window or door or fit a vent kit to the outside. Without that, moisture settles on the walls and the machine, and every load takes longer. Near the water that damp air carries salt into the dryer as well.

Why is my heat pump dryer not drying?

Clogged filters are the usual cause, both the lint screen in the door and the second filter near the base. Rinse them and check that the water container or drain hose isn't full or blocked. If it still won't dry, a sensor or fan may be at fault.

Do you repair Asko dryers in Shellharbour?

Yes. Asko is one of the brands we're authorised for, alongside Fisher & Paykel, Electrolux, Haier and the rest, in warranty and out. Have the model number handy when you call.
