Larger Albion Park households can run the dryer several times a day through winter. The heating side of the machine usually copes with that. The mechanical parts are what wear out first.
Noises that tell you what's wrong
- A rhythmic squeak or thump on every turn of the drum usually means a worn drum roller, or one with a flat spot.
- A high squeal at start-up that fades as it runs can be the belt slipping or the idler pulley drying out.
- A scraping sound often means the felt seal around the drum has worn, or a bra wire or coin has lodged between the drum and the cabinet.
- A hum with no movement is usually a snapped belt, or a motor struggling to start.
Heat pump dryers in a cold garage
If your dryer lives in the garage, the type matters. A heat pump dryer moves heat around a sealed circuit and relies on the room around it being reasonably warm. On a cold winter morning in an uninsulated garage its cycles can stretch out badly, or it can stop with an error, even though nothing has failed. The manual lists the lowest room temperature the model is designed for. Running it later in the day, or finding it a spot inside, often cures what looks like a fault. A vented dryer copes with the cold much better, as long as its exhaust goes outside the garage.
Pressing start and getting nothing
Plug a lamp into the same socket to rule out the power, and check the breaker at the switchboard. Then shut the door firmly, since a worn catch or door switch stops the dryer from starting, and look for a child lock on models that have one. If all of that checks out, the door switch, the start switch or the thermal fuse may need replacing. On some models a blown fuse leaves the lights on with no heat or movement.
Albion Park and Albion Park Rail are covered on the same run. Every job starts with a $125 assessment, and you approve the repair price before the technician goes any further. Having the model number to hand when you ring, usually on a plate around the door opening, helps the right belt or roller come out on the first trip.
Questions from Albion Park
Why is my dryer making a squealing noise?
Usually a worn drum roller, a slipping belt or a dry idler pulley. Rollers and belts wear faster in dryers that run every day. They are inexpensive parts and a common repair.
Why won't my dryer start when it has power?
A door switch or catch that doesn't register the door as shut is a common cause. A blown thermal fuse, a faulty start switch or a child lock can also stop it. If the lights come on but nothing turns, tell us that when you book.
How much does it cost to fix a dryer in Albion Park?
The visit and diagnosis are a fixed $125. You see the repair price before committing, and you can pay by card or Afterpay.
